Cindy Roybal received a sign of her future right in the front yard of her home deep in the Pecos Wilderness last week — a herd of elk.

That might have played as much of a role as the offer the legendary girls basketball coach received after a four-year absence to return to the sidelines as Pojoaque Valley’s head girls basketball coach, which she accepted Wednesday morning.

Roybal replaces Jonathan Salazar, who was fired after two years and an 18-35 mark.
