And on the ninth game, the Albuquerque Isotopes won.
Despite a near implosion from the bullpen for a second straight day, the Isotopes held on for a 12-10 win over the Salt Lake Bees to halt an eight-game losing streak and win their first game in more than a week.
Albuquerque (10-13) led 3-2 when the offense exploded for eight runs in the fifth inning. The big hit was Ryan Casteel’s bases-loaded triple that made it 8-2. The lead grew to 12-4 in the eighth when the Isotopes bullpen, which gave up seven runs in a 12-5 extra innings loss on Friday, surrendered six runs to the Bees (9-13) to cut the margin to 12-10.
Jairo Diaz made sure the drama ended there, as he breezed through the ninth for his third save.
Casteel went 3-for-5 with three RBIs to lead Albuquerque, while Willin Rosario was 4-for-5 with three RBIs.
The two teams play the finale of their four-game set at 1:35 p.m.
