The slide continues for the Santa Fe Fuego.
Despite allowing fewer than 10 runs in a game for the first time in a week, the Fuego lost their fourth straight Pecos League game as the Trinidad Triggers held on for an 8-7 win Tuesday at Central Park.
Once again, walks were problematic for Fuego pitchers, as they allowed 11 walks to go with 11 hits. It came to a head when Santa Fe reliever Jose Garcia faced five batters in the bottom of the eight without recording an out. He walked four and another reached on a fielder’s as Trinidad (5-6) scored three times to break a 5-all tie.
The Fuego (3-7) cut the deficit to 8-7 in the top of the ninth on Troy Maslowski’s two-run double with two outs, but he was stranded there when Marten Pauwels struck out to end the game.
Sherman Graves led the Santa Fe hitting attack by going 4-for-5 with a pair of doubles and four RBIs.
The two teams play the finale of a three-game set at 6:05 p.m. Wednesday.
