Day 2 of the Santa Fe Fuego’s seven-day stay in Western Kansas was even better than the first.

The Fuego broke out their bats and pounded Garden City Wind pitching for 15 hits, on their way to an 11-8 win at Clint Lightner Field in Pecos League play on Wednesday.

Garden City grabbed a 3-2 lead after the second, but Santa Fe (8-2) responded when Chevas Numata hit the first of his two home runs on the day, a two-run shot that gave the Fuego a 4-3 lead. He followed that the next inning with another two-run homer for an 8-3 advantage.

It was more than enough for Fuego starting pitcher Kahana Neal, who went five innings, allowing four runs on eight hits. Eddie Newton also got in on the home run derby, hitting a two-run blast in the sixth to pad the margin to 10-3.

The Wind fell to 2-12 on the season.

The two teams play Game 3 of the seven-game set at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday.
