For the 16th time this season and ninth time since July 6, the Santa Fe Fuego got an unexpected night off due to field conditions. Friday night’s Pecos League game against Trinidad at Fort Marcy Ballpark was called off due to problems stemming from a leaking sprinkler system in the outfield.

It follows on the heels of Thursday’s postponement for the same reason.

Saturday’s scheduled game against Trinidad remains in doubt as city crews are attempting to fix the problem. They were at the ballpark on Friday but were unable to finish the job before game time.

Trinidad clinched the North Division title by virtue of Friday’s decision not to play. The Triggers held a five-game lead over the Fuego heading into the weekend, but only four games remain in the regular season. It means Trinidad will be the North’s top seed, assuring it home field advantage in Games 3-5 in its upcoming best-of-five playoff series against Santa Fe. That series begins next Wednesday at Fort Marcy.
