Taos in a bottle

In 1987, the first year for the Taos Winter Wine Festival, the city had about 4,500 residents, which has increased by about 2,000 people.The festival has grown commensurately, expanding from an invitation to a handful of winemakers to include 30, as well as 22 restaurants.

This year’s festival begins Thursday, Jan. 26, at various Taos Ski Valley locations. The events include Message in the Bottle: A Guide to Tasting Wine with master sommelier Tim Gaiser and a reserve tasting and silent auction (both Thursday, Jan. 26); Willamette Valley Salmon Fest and Aprés Ski Tasting, (both Jan. 27); International Wines and Lamb Roast, and the Grand Tasting, (both Jan. 28).
