The young dancers at New Mexico School for the Arts show off their talents with four world premieres at Winter Dances 2017: An Evening of Mixed Repertoire, opening at the James A. Little Theater at New Mexico School for the Deaf (1060 Cerrillos Road) at 7 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 20. Sostenuto, choreographed by Penny Saunders, is a neoclassical duet with live accompaniment, while Take Five, choreographed by Russell Baker, executive director of NDI New Mexico, is set to the music of the Dave Brubeck Quartet. Allemande is choreographed by Garrett Anderson, the chair of the NMSA dance department, and Hold, the wind breathless, was created for NMSA students by Quinn Wharton, who incorporated ballet and hip-hop dance into the choreography. Additional performances are Saturday, Jan. 21, at 4 p.m. and 7 p.m., and Sunday, Jan. 22, at 2 p.m. Tickets are $10 ($5 for students and seniors), available at and at the door.
