Before Sanbusco Market Center (500 Montezuma Ave.) becomes a charter school, it will be a Bollywood club for one night, from 6:30 p.m. to midnight on Saturday, April 30. The family-friendly event features live performances by Jaymin Patel, Whitney Jones, and Myra Krien, along with the Mosaic Dance Company’s Pomegranate Dancers. Bollywood, Mumbai’s Hindi-language film industry, has become known for its colorful and festive song and dance routines, many of which become more popular than the movies themselves. Guests of Bollywood Club Invasion can learn some Bollywood moves in a lesson led by Patel at 7:30 p.m. and then use their new skills to dance to music spun by DJ Dynamite Sol of Santa Fe, DJ Shobanon of San Francisco, and others, against a multimedia display by Agramzu Productions. In addition to dancing and live performances, Indian food, desserts, and traditional chai are for sale. Also available are astrological readings, chair massages, and henna tattoos, and there is an Indian-inspired clothing bazaar. Bollywood Club Invasion is a fundraiser for the Amma Center of New Mexico, a nonprofit that provides vegetarian burritos to homeless people and others in need every Sunday. The organization also sponsors and prepares meals for St. Elizabeth and Casa La Familia shelters. Admission is $15 at the door ($7 for children under twelve).
