From out of the bars and brothels of the ports along South America’s Río de la Plata, and into international ballrooms and the intimate settings of chamber music halls, the tango has a long history as a music and dance form. Hear variations on the music of the tango by composers Sergei Rachmaninoff, Carter Brey, Pavel Karmanov, Igor Stravinsky, Alfred Schnittke, and Astor Piazzolla in an evening of chamber music at the First Presbyterian Church (208 Grant Ave.) at 3 p.m. on Sunday, May 5. The program, Red Tango, features David Felberg and Ruxandra Marquardt on violin, Dana Winograd on cello, and Judith Gordon on piano. The event is part of Serenata of Santa Fe’s 2018-2019 season. Tickets are $20 to $40, available at the door 30 minutes to an hour before the concert, or online at brownpapertickets.com. Call 505-989-7988 or visit serenataofsantafe.org for more information.
