Founded in 1977 by bassist and singer John Doe and guitarist Billy Zoom, and joined later by D.J. Bonebrake on drums and vocalist Exene Cervenka — X rose to become one of the most influential bands in the Los Angeles underground music scene. Part of punk’s first wave, X had a rockabilly sensibility and a soaring, hard-driving sound that propelled early albums, like 1980’s Los Angeles (produced by former Doors keyboardist Ray Manzarek) and 1981’s Wild Gift. The band, with slightly different lineups over the years, went on to record seven studio albums, growing musically and exploring forms that merged the distinctive sounds of hard rock, punk, and country. At 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, July 3, the band’s original lineup plays at The Bridge Patio at Santa Fe Brewing Co. (37 Fire Place). The cost is $30 in advance, $35 on the day of the show. This is a 21-and-older event. Tickets are available at call 505-886-1251 or go to holdmyticket.com.
