On their 2001 album The Janissary Stomp, Roger Landes (left) and Chipper Thompson sing songs of love, war, and betrayal played on the Irish-style bouzouki, originally a Greek string instrument that has found its way into traditional music around the world. For their album, the accomplished multi-instrumentalists merged music from Scotland, Ireland, Mexico, the Balkans, and medieval Spain — among other locales and historical periods — in a way that respected the musical and cultural roots of those countries while creating something both familiar and fresh. Landes and Thompson play songs from The Janissary Stomp at 7 p.m. on Saturday, May 18, at San Miguel Mission (401 Old Santa Fe Trail). Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $15 at the door.
