Gustav Mahler composed Symphony No. 1 in D major in late 1887 and early 1888, in Leipzig, Germany. He referred to its earliest form as a tone poem, but he continued to revise the symphony until 1896. Oliver Prezant, music director for the Santa Fe Community Orchestra, conducts the organization’s season finale at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, June 2, at the James A. Little Theater at the New Mexico School for the Deaf (1060 Cerrillos Road). The concert also features the world premiere of Suite l’Montgolfière by Los Alamos musician Ted Vives, winner of SFCO’s 2018-2019 composition competition. It’s free.
