Arlen Asher, who turns ninety on May 7, is renowned for his playing on every type of saxophone, as well as the alto flute, concert flute, bass flute, B-flat clarinet, bass clarinet, and contrabass clarinet. In 2007, he retired after teaching music to a couple thousand children, but he’s still making music. The Santa Fe Music Collective (505-946-7934, santafemusiccollective.org) presents a birthday concert celebration at 5 p.m. Sunday, May 5, at SITE Santa Fe, 1606 Paseo de Peralta. Admission is $20. Asher is joined by Christine Fawson, vocals and trumpet; Jim Ahrend, piano; Colin Deuble, bass; and John Trentacosta, drums.
