Tania Katan is co-creator of the social media campaign #ItWasNeverADress and refers to herself as a “creative disruptor.” She will discuss her philosophy and new book, Creative Trespassing: How to Put the Spark and Joy Back into Your Work and Life (Currency/Crown), at the New Mexico Museum of Art on Saturday, March 9. Jen Sincero, author of the You Are a Badass best-selling motivational series, also appears.
Finding ways to fit creativity into the mundane, including at work, is central to Katan’s worldview. On her Twitter account, she asks questions like, “What would happen if your boredom and imagination faced off?” She uses high energy and humor to challenge views about gender, voice, family, and illness, and encourages “unbelievable, outlandish, and innovative solutions.” The curator of code at software developer Axosoft, Katan encourages people to see logic and limits as “subject to change,” and maintains that open-mindedness makes the world seem rich with possibility.
Another successful pep talker, Sincero hopes her followers will decide on goals and learn to be unafraid of changing any habits that don’t support their march toward hoped-for achievements. In a recent tweet, Sincero said, “Stretching your imagination is critical if you want to radically change ... We’re asking ourselves to picture our dream lives from the ‘realities’ we currently exist in.”
Tania Katan and Jen Sincero speak at the St. Francis Auditorium, New Mexico Museum of Art, at 6 p.m. Saturday, March 9. Each author’s works are available for purchase and signing after the talk. Visit creativesantafe.org/events/creative-trespassing for tickets, $5.
