Evelyne Boren at Acosta Strong Fine Art

Evelyne Boren, Spring Blossoms Inn of Alameda (2022), watercolor on board

German-born artist Evelyne Boren, a former aquatic diver and stunt double in Hollywood productions, turned to art in 1962, inspired by the natural beauty of the Bahamas, where she’d been working on a James Bond film. Boren, who once swam with an orca for the 1966 film Namu, The Killer Whale, renders impressionistic views of Europe, Mexico, and the Southwest in contrasting palettes of cool and warm tones. Her loose brushwork and reductive sense of form lend an abstract quality to her paintings. A reception for her solo exhibition, Love of Painting, takes place on at 5 p.m. Friday, Sept. 16, and the show runs through September.
