James Hickerson

This timeline is representative but not at all complete. The New Mexico Mountain Club established in 1952 and still very active today was the source of some of the earliest and best recreational climbers in the state, establishing routes in the Sandias and across New Mexico. Bouldering was a popular sport from early on. Climbing gyms have exposed people to the activity of climbing, but to place them in the same category of natural rock on ice is not realistic--the natural world is much more challenging than the artificial. Much as in life.
