June 12, 1969: About 200 persons turned out Wednesday night to hear 10 constitutional convention candidates state their views and answer questions.

June 12, 1994: Few children are so sought after — and fought over — as one adopted Albuquerque 4-year-old.

His father, Edward Bookert, calls him Jerome and wants custody of the son he never agreed to give up.

His adoptive parents, Kyle and Carla Roth, call him Kassen and want to keep him in their home, where he’s lived for the past 31/2 years.

Monday, the two sides will take their adoption struggle, which is similar to the better-known Baby Jessica case, to the New Mexico Supreme Court in Santa Fe. The court must decide whether the child’s psychological bond with his adoptive parents forfeits the birth father’s right to have custody of his son.
