This is a great article revealing events that we don't normally think about. I knew that US shelters were emptying quickly during COVID-19, but it never entered my mind to consider what was happening in Africa to the animals.
Thank you for bringing this important issue to public attention. I've been concerned hearing about dire situations in other countries, such as Egypt, where people were abandoning animals because of false rumors on social media about cats and dogs spreading the virus. I chose to make a private donation to an organization I know there, as well as to New Mexico-based non-profits serving both animal rescue and needs of the human community.
Thank you very much Debra for your support of local and "global-local" organizations and causes. While interest and concern among Africans about humane treatment of animals has certainly increased (albeit with some setbacks due to covid-19), there are still too few people able and willing to donate to their local animal welfare organizations, so we continue to need broadminded people like you!
