What an irony that the country's healthiest community is sitting on or next to the national lab that, with inadequate government oversight, is threatening our safe drinking water supply, and responsible for other potential hazards to both individual health and the health of the planet!

Khal Spencer

Lab has been there since the 1940's and the community grew up around it. Healthiest place in the nation so obviously your assertions on hazards are a little unconvincing.

I think the high level of education and the high salaries in Los Alamos are the leading factors to healthy living.

I dunno, the sounds of explosions on a regular basis is a turn off for me!

Khal Spencer

Try living in Fanta Se, serenaded to the constant sounds of drag racing, loud mufflers, and police/fire sirens. Its not one of the City Different's major selling points.

As you are the rare person or reason here, you could give the "Fanta Se" thing a rest; it is tired.

Khal Spencer

I'll feed it some coffee, Rodney, to perk it up.

Provide guaranteed low-cost or free healthcare to all communities in the US; and, you might find equally healthy demographics everywhere.

Khal Spencer

Spot on. If everyone could live in one of the wealthiest communities in the state if not the nation, with a great health care plan paid for in part by Uncle Sam, high levels of education, and plenty of good food and recreation, in a pristine environment, we would most likely all be healthy as horses. I lived there for 17 years and indeed, its easy to be healthy in BombTowne, even with a high stress job (that paid pretty well...).

Now, for the rest of the nation??? Brotha, can you spare a dime?

Philip Taccetta

Bernie is right! We need universal health care including dental and vision. Obamacare is at best a stop gap measure.

You missed the not so subtle point here Khal, IMO, what this editorial and the comment are saying is why don't we guarantee that everyone is highly educated, has a high paying, fantastic job with the best bennies, and provide the best facilities for all things, and we can all be like Los Alamos, right? How do we make that happen? To each according to need, from each according to ability.......

Khal Spencer

I suppose if everyone was willing to work so hard to get a STEM degree, etc.,

Mike Johnson

No Khal, that would imply equality of opportunity, that is not what they are talking about here, it is equality of outcomes.

Khal Spencer

Only way government can even try to control outcomes is in a totalitarian state. But Winston Smiths will always exist.
