LOS ALAMOS — A single-engine plane crashed Sunday morning in a canyon about a mile south of the Los Alamos Airport.

The Los Alamos Monitor reports (http://bit.ly/1kpMDRc) that at least one person aboard the plane died in the crash.

The aircraft was completely destroyed.

It’s unknown whether there were other passengers on the plane or whether the plane was taking off or landing when it crashed.

Federal Aviation Administration spokeswoman Lynn Lunsford says investigators from the agency were headed to the crash site.
