TAOS – A 20-year-old Taos man was arrested Sunday night after he was accused of causing a three-car crash and running his vehicle into Mante's Chow Cart SouthSide restaurant.

Officers from the Taos County Sheriff's Office and Taos Police Department investigated the crash and arrested James Archuleta, who faces a DWI charge and a petty misdemeanor count of negligent use of a deadly weapon. Officers said they found an AR-15 in Archuleta's vehicle. According to a statement of probable cause, being intoxicated while possessing a firearm is a petty misdemeanor.

Archuleta was driving a 2016 Dodge Charger heading north when he struck a 2014 Nissan Altima from the rear, "causing both vehicles to travel off the roadway," authorities said in a news release.

Archuleta's vehicle left the road and ran into the restaurant, which caused significant damage to the building, the news release said.

No major injuries were reported, but Archuleta was transported to Holy Cross Medical Center as a precaution.

"Further investigation led investigators to suspect alcohol was involved," the release said.

Archuleta was released on a $2,000 unsecured appearance bond.
