A man charged with offering $20 in exchange for oral sex with a 13-year-old girl told police he works as an assistant bus driver for Santa Fe Public Schools.
The Santa Fe Police Department on Tuesday said police have notified the school district about the arrest of Eutimio Lopez, 60, on one count of sexual exploitation of children by prostitution.
A school official on Tuesday said he would comment after gathering more information.
Santa Fe police arrested Lopez of Santa Fe on suspicion of sexual exploitation of children by prostitution after a 13-year-old girl reported that he had propositioned her and asked her if she had any friends with whom he could perform a sexual act in exchange for $20, according to a police report.
Lopez, who has been released from jail on electronic monitoring and the condition that he has no contact with children, has not responded to requests from comment by The New Mexican.
Court records list no attorney, and no plea has been entered to the second-degree felony charge.
Searches of court and jail records have found no criminal history for Lopez.
An arrest statement says Lopez had given a co-worker a ride to a medical appointment on Friday and the co-worker’s daughter went along. The girl initially went into the medical building with her mother but later came out and was in the car alone with Lopez, the statement says.
The girl later told her mother and police that Lopez had asked her if she knew any girls about 12 years old whom he could perform oral sex on in exchange for $20, the statement says.
A detective wrote that Lopez admitted that he had asked the girl if he could perform a sex act with her and also asked if a 13-year-old friend of hers would be willing in exchange for money.
A person who answered the phone at the suspect’s house Monday evening said, “He has no comment right now.” A person who answered Tuesday said Lopez is not available for comment.
