This is worth a news story? I’m sure if the city attorney determines that the $220 was not a legitimate campaign expense that Ms. Cassett Sanchez will reimburse the city. This article really just seems like an attempt to find a dirt on a newly elected counselor.

Really looking forward to her judgement on other issues...

Rookie mistake. Surely she's learned a valuable lesson.

Disgusting. She may be new, but she quickly adapts to the corrupt way of doing political favors with tax payer money.

Edward Brown

From her campaign, I got the feeling that fiscal responsibility is NOT job one. The excess money could have been donated or returned to the city. Remember, the funds are our tax dollars.

Did Renee Villareal's victory night celebration paid for with public funds include alcohol?

Do you not live in the DUI capitol of the world??? What do you think? 🍺🍻πŸ₯‚πŸ·πŸΎπŸΉπŸΈπŸ₯ƒ Then they all drove home!πŸ™€

Did the victory night celebration that Renee Villareal had include alcohol?

How does buying cards at $10/piece to thank volunteers further Cassutt Sanchez further her campaign. Obvious answer--it does not. Ms Cassutt Sanchez should buy those cards with her city salary of $30K/year and return the rest to the city clerk. As for Villarreal, she should know better--how lax these councilors become! What other monies are misspent?

Nicoletta Munroe

It is imperative when running for city council, that the candidate, at minimum, familiarize themselves with the city code. City Councilors write laws for the City.

City councilors are lawmakers. Perhaps we should think about running people for office with law degrees. Notably, both candidates in the article have 'gifted' to themselves something of value. The victory part for Villarreal is self-dealing. As a constituent for District One I will ask that those funds be returned to the City.

Dr. Michael Johnson

I don't think requiring they be lawyers would help, what you need is honest people with integrity who think of the citizens instead of themselves, cronies, and relatives, lawyers are not like that.
