UNEMPLOYMENT IS MANY TIMES HIGHER THAN REPORTED! ______________________________________________ These numbers are grossly under reported! Many are under counted because they can't even contact the state Unemployment Insurance (UI) office to file a claim, or they're discouraged or unskilled, or discriminated against. But there is also a number that probably far exceeds the number of self-employed and gig workers who managed to jump through the hoops the state UI office put them through just to be counted (and not necessarily paid any benefits). Those are the workers who are still receiving a paycheck in whole or part because their employers are receiving grants through the federal Paycheck Protect Program (PPP). The secret PPP pay-outs were handouts to employers like Ruth's Chris Steak House and Shake Shake, to name a couple that are known to have received millions of dollars in grants, before they were shamed into giving the money back; and the only reason the public knows about them is because they're publicly traded companies that report those things; BUT there are thousands receiving billions of dollars in grants which we'll never know about (if the Trump administration gets their way!). There are many secret recipients of grants that Treasury Secretary Mnuchin refuses to disclose; and the American taxpayer may be on the hook to pay for those so-called loans; but the fact is that many of those loans will become grants or debts of dead beat employers. Unfortunately politicians (of both major parties) are too eager to throw corporate welfare at businesses under a failed theory of trickle down economics while only begrudgingly prepared to offer the working class crumbs! Part of this pro-business program and propaganda campaign requires state and federal governments to UNDER REPORT the unemployment rate through an elaborate and expensive secret Small Business Administration program that pays employers to keep workers on the payroll... but that's worse than corporate welfare, it's extortion of the American taxpayer. Meanwhile the state continues to put out dubious unemployment rates, while simultaneously spending great amounts of resources (in conjunction with the US Department of Commerce) touting the decennial Census, and the importance of an accurate count! The hypocrisy would be laughable if so many of the jobless weren't being swept under the rug and out of sight. Will the Roundhouse address this issue during the special session this week... a sure bet is "NO!" AND YOU CAN COUNT ON THAT!
