The state on Tuesday honored the 1,800 New Mexican servicemen who took part in the World War II Battle of Bataan with a memorial ceremony.

The ranks of the survivors of that battle and its deadly aftermath, the Bataan Death March, are thinning each year. Two years ago, on the 75th anniversary of the fall of Bataan, five survivors showed up. This year, as last year, there was just one.
