Justin Romero, who stands about 6-foot-9 and weighs some 300 pounds, has brought a hulking presence and memorable nickname to Santa Fe’s criminal justice scene.

His rap sheet — which dates back to 2004 and includes involvement in an execution-style slaying in 2008 — shows long stretches of time when Romero, 41, seems to have gone quiet.

But the serial burglar, who goes by the street name “Gumby,” according to court documents, has reemerged.

Justin “Gumby” Romero, who pleaded guilty in 2010 to charges tied to the execution-style slaying of a man in 2008, has emerged as a suspect in several crimes. Police also say Romero was wounded by gunshots to both legs during the shooting of a man whose body later was found in a home in Lone Butte.
