Saturday election protest

A few hundred people gathered outside the Roundhouse on Saturday to protest Joe Biden’s Electoral College victory.

News of Joe Biden’s Electoral College victory sent a few hundred angry supporters of President Donald Trump to the Roundhouse on Saturday.

Some with guns and rosaries, protesters screamed claims of election fraud in New Mexico and across the country.

“I won my campaign. But did they call me? No. They gave it to Liz Stefanics because they came up with 3,000 plus votes after 11 p.m. when they shut down the county and said, ‘Hey, go home, you’re tired, we’ll start the counting in the morning,’ ” Republican Joey Tiano, who ran for a seat in the state Senate, told a crowd of around 350 mostly unmasked Trump supporters.

“At midnight, the campaign for Liz Stefanics had thousands of votes more. That’s the proof in my heart that the campaign was stolen. We need a recount.”

Stefanics, a Democratic incumbent, defeated Tiano in Senate District 39, which includes parts of Santa Fe, San Miguel, Torrance, Bernalillo, Valencia and Lincoln counties, with 55 percent of over 22,000 votes.

Members of both Cowboys for Trump and Bikers for Trump also spoke, as did anti-abortion and Second Amendment activists.

“We allowed this to happen. We felt too complacent. We felt too comfortable,” said Stephen Garrett, who organized past protests over the Extreme Risk Protection Order Act. It enables law enforcement officers to petition for a court order to take away a person’s firearms for up to one year if they are found to pose a threat to themselves or others.

Garrett added: “People are learning that they can vote themselves free stuff if they vote for the right person.”

The rally was circled by trucks honking for Trump while a few dozen protesters lined the intersection of Paseo de Peralta and Old Santa Fe Trail, drawing some support and plenty of curse words.

Meanwhile, Democrats said they felt respite.

“I can certainly say at this moment I feel a sense of relief,” said Sarah Falion, a Biden supporter who was walking downtown Saturday with a sign that read, “Time to clean house.”

“It’s a new beginning, but the real work begins now,” she said. “Trump is just one person.”

Adding to Trump's accomplishments. His failures with racial equality and continued support of white supremacists, America's reputation with our allies is in shambles, the Trump administration's "zero tolerance" policy on illegal border crossings led to the separations of at least 5,500 families and saw children placed in cages, and let's not forget about the failure to address the Covid-19 epidemic.

Jose Garcia

Blame China for COVID.. First of all Trump is just a man he doesn’t have all the answers I am sure anyone in his position would of had issues. when Trump wanted to close the flights going in to America. They called him racists he was just doing what he thought was right.. would you of let people coming from a unknown disease epicenter into your home.. another thing You must watch too much main stream media. The cages that were built was built by the Obama administration in 2014 and Obama built them for a reason and did use them as well for migrated children but no one documented that. Well there is 2014 photos of it. Obama doing the same thing. Only difference is that Trump was in the time that a mass exodus of people moving through Mexico and Mexico did not want them either. Thank Soros for that.

Yes it tragic that this happened to these children but the parents bringing them into the country I am sure knew full well that they might get stopped , jailed and possibly deported..

Also these coyotes split up most of families and when they arrived a lot of the parents bailed their kids. With no parents found what are they suppose to do. Where do they put 5,500 undocumented people mostly children with no ids etc.. some have never been reunited because parents left them. as far as allies

Yes he became aggressive with China and some of the trade agreements but he needed to be . China have done so much to hurt our economy that we don’t have american manufactures anymore. China is not out for our best interest. He eventually became friends with Putin even Kim Jong-un who we didn’t have any good terms with before Trump. as far a white suprematist card he is not the racist president we have ever had. 12 of the presidents had slaves. Almost every president was racist to a degree. Ronald Reagan constantly spoke about "welfare queens" and characterized poverty as an African American issue. Lyndon Johnson's language behind the scenes. If you listen to private tapes of him talking to different politicians, he often did use very racist language. Even Biden had some racists comments one “In Delaware, the largest growth in population is Indian-Americans moving from India. You cannot go to a 7-Eleven or a Dunkin’ Donuts unless you have a slight Indian accent.” Biden.. It’s not right by any means but honestly everyone is to a degree.

Mark Blackburn

Thank you Jose for being spot on. Its all about the Chinese Virus nothing more.

Carlos Vasquez

all done...

Russell Scanlon

Let’s look at what really happened with China:

Trump, in typical uninformed fashion, blusters about how “unfair” China is and starts a unilateral trade war.

Farmers and ranchers begin to suffer as a result of lost/interrupted trade.

Republicans pass an emergency tax bill (YOUR MONEY) to bail them out.

But somehow, this is not “Socialism”.

Al Chavez

No, sir. Trump's response to the pandemic has directly resulted in thousands of deaths that almost any other leader--including some very decent Republicans--would have avoided with a more coherent federal response. Trump *KNEW* how dangerous the virus was and he still pretended it was no big deal. Thank your lucky stars if it hasn't affected you yet. But tens of thousands of people are dead and many more will be dealing with the effects of the virus for years to come. And the hundreds of thousands affected by those deaths are among those who won't agree with you.

Angel Trump has been denouncing white supremacy since he was elected over 100 times, he had the KKK and democrat formed organization a terrorist group, Obama or any other President before did nothing about this infamous group. The numbers on covid based on population and demographics is the same world wide so everyone in the world got covid wrong. He brought peace to the Middle East and put China in its place. I am still trying to figure out all the unfairness, you will be rid of Trump soon enough.

rodney carswell

of course, Trump lies literally all the time and sadly, his followers believe whatever he says. So this list is an attempt at a bluster blitz (just like Trump)--as one pundit said "Tumps fills the air with words". This list is trying to fill the comment section with claims, some of which may be true, others not true, still others--not so simple. A quick and random check will no doubt provide counter argument and attribution for "credit" to the claims stated here. I'm not going to bother ; my experience of the last 4 years tells me Trump is Trump; he was voted out for because enough of us saw that with our own eyes. Enough.

Jose Garcia

So I guess you don’t care anything about these laws that he helped get passed? Trump is transparent he says it like it is and rubs certain people the wrong way. He is not perfect in any sense but he is real. You know what you get with Trump. Most Of these voters who voted for Biden hated Trump so much they didn’t care who was running on the other side.. could of been Stalin and they would of voted for him. Yep Biden has no time now to read the readers digest , warm milk, or nappy poos. There gonna jam a pen in his hand an go sign all these stacks of laws etc. Then sleep joe will go to retirement home. Kamela Harris will step in and become President and who knows who with VP Problay every Leftist dream Hilary Clinton. Glad your votes counted

I am sure mine was thrown in a dumpster bin somewhere in Truchas.

rodney carswell

Come on, I wouldn't have voted for Stalin, but yes, I would have voted for any competent adult before I would vote for DJT. Your guy had 4 years; he was a disaster. From day one, I just couldn't get past the lying and general meanness. He never governed for America, only for his 40%. How is that OK? How is telling over 20,000 lies right out in the open OK? Who does that on the epic scale he does? To me, that is a bottom line for a leader, a colleague, a friend, a neighbor, a family member. He lied without provocation, for the tiniest for reasons and in the most important circumstances. He was transparent, I will give you that; he lied right out in the open. And by the way, we are all real; I am here, I am real, I count. And if you voted, I'm sure it was tallied; the BS that it wasn't is yet another lie.

Stefanie Beninato

No, Jose, you have drunk the koolaid. Trump is a liar--always was and always will be. He is also a sore loser. The people have spoken. He lacks the grace and confidence to accept the results (probably because he knows that a massive number of lawsuits for defamation, sexual assault, tax evasion, money laundering etc will be brought at the state level). All he does is go play more golf while he sics his sick supporters on county clerks, secretaries of state to continue to sow discord and violence. The virus was not created by Trump but we all know he held back facts of its virulence while his top supporters made money on the stock market. Despite COVID rates going through the roof, this Liar/Denier/Slayer/Spreader in Chief still endangers others by not wearing a mask and continuing to "assure" us its around the corner so he does not have to mount an effective response.. I sure hope the WH staff can thoroughly sanitize that place before Biden moves in.

Carlos Vasquez

Stefanie Beninato

I understand that you are a broker/auctioneer of Native American artifacts. I thought about bring something to you for sale. Your unthinking rabidness and implicit violence is a real turnoff.

Khal Spencer

Good friend of mine, a retired Navy Seal, said much the same. To paraphrase, he liked many of Trump's policies but in his case, thought the guy was too much of an A H to remain President. Its unfortunate for many on the right that his obnoxiousness outweighed what good he might have done for the conservative causes.

Jose Garcia

Exactly. Trump was not raised to breed to be a politician. He wasn’t hiding behind hidden agendas like other politicians do.. he was elegant and yes crude at times but real. Honestly made me laugh a lot. He told it like it is and didn’t care who was listening.. people get too sensitive and don’t look past his persona and see what he has done. I give him credit no other President was like him or will be. he was thrown some very serious things in 4 years and he tried his best to address them. Just like Regan he wasn't breed a politician he tried his best but One difference he wasn’t a successful business man. Trump knows business. he knows it well. the people that hated because of this because he is successful and has a lot . yes he boostful yes he has pride in himself but he always been that way he didn’t change once he became president like some Others did. Peace out

Michael Campbell

he didn’t bring a lot of car plants to the state — the most he can claim is one.

That one is a Fiat Chryler factory that will build Jeep SUVs in Detroit, on the site of an idled engine plant. It’s due to open in 2021. That is part of a package of investments in five other Fiat Chrysler plants in the state.

“Trump can count it as a new plant because it closed back in 2013 before he became president,” said automobile industry researcher James Rubenstein at Ohio’s Miami University.

But when Trump said that he saved the auto industry, he left out that total auto industry employment in Michigan dropped by about 3,000 in 2019. That was after a steady rise since 2010, when the major U.S. automakers began to recover from the recession and their restructurings. The coronavirus-induced economic slump this year brought more job losses, but the declines took place before the virus arrived.

Russell Scanlon

Most of those bills you listed were parts of spending bills that trump had absolutely nothing to do with. He did not write or lobby members of Congress, he simply signed his name.

Here is what Trump actively lobbied for: Huge tax breaks for people’s like himself.

Reduction of public lands, and opening up park lands for oil exploration.

Separating children from their parents at the border and keeping them in cages.

Denying climate change and implementing policies to increase our reliance on fossil fuels.

It was OBAMA who brought back the auto industry during the stimulus negotiations (which the Republicans strenuously objected to and accused Democrats of being “Socialists”

And likewise, oil prices began to drop during the Obama administration due to increased fracking.

But the biggest accomplishment of the Trump administration? He divided us all against each other in a way we haven’t seen since the Civil War.

Let’s all remember: The truth (especially in matters of governance) is ALWAYS more complex and nuanced than it seems.

Jose, a lot of the things you're giving Trump credit for would have happened whether he was president or not. Many also were no-brainers--they would have happened regardless who was president. Your list should include the things Trump did that were horrible, like denying the science behind climate change and the coronavirus. Never mind the untruths that he told routinely.

Saturday, during the Trump truck rally, I had driven into the Kaune’s grocery parking lot to do some shopping . As I parked I noticed a female filming the Trump rally on her phone. Upon stepping out of my car, I saw her light grey VW suv attempting to exit via the one way lot entrance. I gestured that she needed to circle the lot and go out the exit. To which she rolled down her window, screaming F_____ YOU!!!! multiple times while giving me the finger with both hands. I replied that while I was flattered, I am happily married. To which she drove out the entrance off the curbs, and directly in front of traffic. Welcome to crazy town.,,,

I wish they would leave the firepower home when they angrily protest at the Roundhouse. Even if no one does anything stupid, which is normally the case, the optics are awful. And you can bet your sweet bippy that the Legislature will have that on its mind come January.

Mike Johnson

Maybe Khal, but I don't think the NM government would like to go to the current SCOTUS arguing against 2nd A rights.........

Khal Spencer

Well, a lot of what I consider crummy gun laws have been left standing by the current court. I think adding Judge Barrett to the SCOTUS is good for 2A rights but frankly, I wouldn't want to volunteer to be the test case by making a pain of myself at the Roundhouse. Is this a case of News Filtering Bias? Saturday, there were Biden/Harris supporters on the Plaza and Trump supporters at the Roundhouse. Mike Johnson

And since these were conservatives, there was no rioting, looting, arson, and vandalism, as when the left wing "protests". The only peaceful protests theses days are conservative ones, exercising their 1st Amendment rights and not trashing the city.

Laughably incorrect.

I was at the peaceful gathering on the east side corner of Paseo De Peralta. We were all wearing masks and were socially distanced with Biden signs. Many of the Trump protestors were armed to the teeth. On several occasions, two of the armed men were becoming extremely aggressive. There were no police until much later. By that time the police arrived, a young man’s car was dented by one of the armed men. They quickly took off when the police arrived. In addition to being repeatedly and aggressively threatened by armed men, innocent and peaceful Biden supporters were spit on, called derogatory and offensive names, and repeatedly had exhaust blown on us when the protestors would press the gas of their trucks to try and choke us with exhaust. Maybe, just maybe…. it is time this state ends open carry. Free speech is not about who has the biggest gun.

Lupe Molina

Thank you, I witnessed this too and saw a lack of police presence except for an occasional driveby by an unmarked black crusher. I'll be filing complaints with elected officials and hope you'll do the same.

I hope you were repeatedly calling police about their property damage and assault (spitting should be assault, especially with COVID running rampant):

In New Mexico, assault is:

intentional threats, words, or actions that cause a person to feel afraid of impending violence

attempting to attack or hit someone, or

the intentional use of words that insult another’s character.

(N.M. Stat. Ann. § 30-3-1.)

The New Mexico statute defines the following acts as aggravated assault:

threatening or attempting to strike or otherwise injure someone with a deadly weapon

threatening or attempting to strike or injure another while concealing one’s identity

Willfully and intentionally threatening or attempting to strike or apply physical force to another with the intent of committing a felony.

that's your argument? You lost but you like your number and you want that 70 mil number to be a threat to the Dems if they don't do what your side wants? Did Trump attend to the fact that he lost the popular vote in 2016 by some 3 million votes and make a nod of bipartisanship in governing? No, quite the opposite, he governed for his 40% base. I expect Biden to work harder for bipartisan agreement, but I do not hold out hope for GOP cooperation. Not to burst your pride bubble related to Trump's 70 mil votes vs Obama's 69.5 mil votes--I think if you compared the population of the US in 2008 vs 2020, you will find that Obama got a greater % of the vote. Hello Anita. Thank you for your attempt at being my conscience. No need. I don't own an asault rifle. I don't open carry with a rosary in my hand. But after reading the insane posts on this story, I may leave my rosary at home. Thanks for your care and consideration.
