A story on Page A-4 of the Friday, Feb. 8, 2019, edition of The New Mexican, about a bill aimed to help Public Service Company of New Mexico shutter the San Juan Generating Station near Farmington, quoted House Republican Leader Rod Montoya of Farmington stating that about 1,500 workers would be displaced if Senate Bill 489 becomes law. That number was disputed by PNM. A spokesman for the utility said it has about 200 workers at the plant, and the adjacent coal mine has about 225. A spokesman for House Republicans said Montoya’s figures don’t just include PNM, but all the affiliated subcontractors and other businesses.
