New Mexico reported eight deaths and 181 new COVID-19 cases Tuesday.

Four of the fatalities were from Bernalillo County, and all the victims were in their 60s or older, the state said. In all, New Mexico has lost 3,960 people to the disease.

Of the new cases, six were in Santa Fe County.

Though some states around the nation are showing troubling rises in cases due to coronavirus variants and other factors, New Mexico's numbers have been stable. The Department of Health said there were 82 people hospitalized Tuesday with COVID-19. The state reported 518,181 people — 30.8 percent — have been fully vaccinated.

The agency also announced that more than 99 percent of people in the first phase of the vaccine distribution program who have registered for shots have been invited to at least their first appointment.

Open question.....does anyone know why the NMDOH unit sending covid vaccines to CVS?

The claim that 99% of those in phase 1 have been invited to at least one appointment is very misleading. I am 71 and w2s “invited” to a vaccine event in late February only to be told I was not yet eligible when I applied. My husband, also 71, was “invited” twice only to be told the vaccine events were full. Meanwhile, the county points out, as if to comfort most readers, that all deaths yesterday were in those over 60. The state needs to acknowledge its failure to prioritize the second highest risk group, ie the elderly (under 75), as pointed out in the Albuquerque Journal editorial last month. Hopefully, the increase in supplies will help. But let’s not pretend 99% have been provided an opportunity for a vaccine. 99% might have gotten an email.
