It would be great to know if any of the new infections or deaths were breakthrough.

I found a great graphic on CNN’s website this morning but unfortunately can’t find it now or I would post a link for you. I went looking for other similar graphics but am just finding numbers. Anyway, it was showing the breakdown of vaccination status of those hospitalized with covid in the US. Maybe it will post again?

I had seen a 90% unvaccinated figure before but this graphic had unvaccinated at 89%. They listed those who had just received one shot of two-dose vaccines around 5-6% (going from memory) and those who were fully vaccinated but still within a week or so of the second vaccine (around 4%). The fully vaccinated past the two week time after their second shot was something like 1%.

Being fully vaccinated and past the cook time for the vaccines to do their work puts you in a very low risk group. Those generally have some comorbidity. But what was surprising was by far, the largest population cooling heels and spending their life savings in the hospital are unvaccinated or those who waited way too long to get their shots - like someone they knew got sick so that’s when they got their shots. Hard to say how much of the 89-5-5 stat is due to some protection vs that just being their relative ratios of the population and they are all equally likely to get sick. The truth is probably somewhere between.

No idea about infections. Vaccinated are much less likely to show symptoms if infected so those breakthrough infections would probably need to be picked up from random and contact tracing testing, and looking to see who has natural antibodies from exposure to know what’s going on in the larger population.

I was having pretty good luck searching for hospitalized covid vaccination status as keywords.
