Walmart Inc. last week gave raises to 36,000 pharmacy technicians nationwide, including more than 350 in New Mexico, at Walmart and Sam’s Club outlets to an “average hourly wage” of more than $20 an hour.

For the 16 pharmacy technicians at both chains in Santa Fe, starting pay ranges from $15 to $22.50 an hour based on qualifications, publicists said on behalf of the company.

Walmart announced pharmacy technicians will get raises every six months in their first two years with the company, adding raises can add up to $4 per hour over the course of four years.

Walmart also is offering free certification for pharmacy technicians, who then can earn $3 per hour more than noncertified technicians.
