The Judicial Nominating Commission is taking applications for a vacancy on the New Mexico Court of Appeals.

Judge M. Monica Zamora will retire Jan. 31. She was elected to the court in November 2012.

Terms are eight years, but the appointed judge would face election next year to serve the rest of Zamora’s term. Applicants must be at least 35 years old, have 10 years of legal practice and have lived in the state for three years, according to the American Judicature Society.

Applications can be found at lawschool.unm.edu/judsel/application.php or emailed upon request by calling the Judicial Selection Office at 505-277-4700.

The deadline for applications is 5 p.m. Jan. 7. The commission will interview applicants Jan. 17 at the Court of Appeals in Albuquerque.

Questions can be directed to Barry Massey, administrator for the courts, or Chief Judge J. Miles Hanisee.
