Two police officers in Bernalillo fatally shot an armed man Wednesday morning at an apartment complex, New Mexico State Police announced in a news release.
Details about what led to the shooting remained scant.
Officers from the Bernalillo Police Department were called to a unit in the Villa Elena Apartments, 201 Villa Elena Lane, near U.S. 550, around 9:30 a.m., state police said, and found 28-year-old Fabian Rivera armed with a gun.
Two of the Bernalillo officers fired their weapons, hitting Rivera, a resident of Bernalillo, according to state police. He was taken to an area trauma center and pronounced dead around 1:30 p.m.
A state police investigation into the shooting is in preliminary stages, the agency said in a news release. It did not release the names of officers involved in the shooting.
