Fair day for furry (or feathered) farm friends

Olavio Hernandez, 16, tosses Esteban Acosta, 8, around the arena grounds to kill time while the pair waits for more goat judging on the first day of the Santa Fe County Fair, which runs until Saturday at the fairgrounds on Rodeo Road. The fair, which is rebuilding after being canceled in 2020 due to the pandemic, is an opportunity for the region's farm families and 4-H Clubs to show off their agricultural projects.

Sydney Vogt, 9, and her dad Brandon Vogt look at some of the crafts on display during the Santa Fe County Fair. The number of indoor exhibits — in competitive categories including art, baking, gardening, quilting and photography and dozens more — this year were only a fraction of what they have been in years past.
