Former Lujan Grisham intern arrested in GOP vandalism case

Spray-painted words 'still traitors' are on the front of the headquarters of the Republican Party of New Mexico on Monday in Albuquerque. A former congressional intern for Democratic Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham has been arrested and accused of the vandalism.

ALBUQUERQUE — A former congressional intern for Democratic Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham when she was a U.S. congresswoman was arrested in connection with vandalism at the headquarters of the Republican Party of New Mexico.

Cameron Chase McCall was detained and charged with criminal damage to property after authorities compared video footage of the vandalism with a photo of him on his Facebook page, court documents said.

The footage showed the man on Saturday morning spray-paint “still traitors” on the building. A criminal complaint said investigators compared the video footage with McCall's Facebook page after the Republican Party received an anonymous tip.

McCall's attorney, Alexandra W. Jones, said her client didn't do what he's accused of doing.

“This was poorly investigated and based on an anonymous tip," Jones said.

Lujan Grisham spokesman Tripp Stelnicki confirmed that McCall was a congressional intern for Lujan Grisham when she was a member of the U.S. House. Stelnicki condemned the vandalism.

“It’s flatly unacceptable behavior,” Stelnicki said. “The suspect was an intern in her congressional office. ... That fact amplifies her already extreme disappointment in what took place. There is no space for this kind of juvenile nonsense in our politics.”

The Republican Party of New Mexico declined to comment. Officials estimate the damage at $2,500 to $4,000.

In March 2019, the state GOP headquarters was hit by a vandal who spray-painted the word “traitors” on the building. In July 2017, two activists from a radical left group spray-painted an A on the headquarter’s sign.

The previous vandalism prompted Republican officials to install security cameras on the building.

A screenshot of the suspect taken from the surveillance video is available. Why not show that photo with this article?.

Tripp Stelnicki it is the standard for the Democrats from Maxine Waters calling to get in Republican faces and kick them out of restaurants, to Antifa attacks on conservative speakers at Universities, even SS Maggie Oliver paying for bill boards telling the President he wasn't wanted in New Mexico. Clearly there is a pattern of influence from the Party so to say this is unacceptable is laughable.

Jeff Hayduke

Antifa doesn't attack only conservative speakers. There is clearly not a connection in your slippery slope of vandalism via a pattern of influence from Democrats. Your logic is laughable.
