Perhaps the brooms aren’t new, but they definitely are sweeping clean — the Santa Fe Plaza, that is. It’s part of a citizen-inspired initiative to make the city sparkle. The idea is to send out citizens to shine up the town.
HOYLAKE, England — The British Open packs 154 years of history on links courses that have been nurtured more by time than by tractors. It returns this year to Royal Liverpool, the second-oldest golf club in England, established in 1867 before anyone in America knew much about the Royal & Ancient game.

Though he’s perhaps best known for his turn as the nebbish personification of a PC in Apple’s “I’m a Mac, and I’m a PC” ad campaign from 2006, Hodgman is also a stand-up comic, author, and one-time literary agent for the cult actor Bruce Campbell.
Author Susan Orlean pets Maximus, the winner of Saturday’s Rin Tin Tin look-alike contest near the Jean Cocteau Cinema, after the dog gave her a kiss. Orlean, who along with author and cinema owner George R.R. Martin and Mira Lopez of Teca Tu pet boutique, judged the contest, said Maximus reminded her of the dog on the cover of her book, Rin Tin Tin: The Life and the Legend. She added that the dog could easily stand in for Rin Tin Tin and ‘from the start, seemed to take charge.’ Maximus, owned by Glen Miller, was one of 25 dogs vying for the honor.
