David Lubar has taken a break from writing scary stories about hot dogs, and is now one book into the "My Rotten Life" series with the release of Nathan Abercrombie: Accidental Zombie.

This book follows Nathan Abercrombie, an elementary-school dork, and his adventures with trying to fit in. Oh yeah, he accidentally becomes a zombie. In the end, he must make a decision whether to return to life as a normal kid, or remain a zombie forever. He is aided along the way by the overweight and clumsy Mookie and the smart but (somewhat) selfish Abigail.

This book follows a formula that has made countless other series popular. First, you have a pathetic main character whose problems people can relate to; then you add a supernatural twist that gives him an advantage in life. He is aided by friends, who also have faults and strengths that allow for dynamic relationships that bring about interesting events. Yes, this is the same kind of thing you'll find in Maximum Boy, Guardians of Ga'hoole, even Harry Potter.

I recommend this to anyone who laughs at Family Guy and hasn't passed eighth grade yet. If that's you, then you should pick up a copy of My Rotten Life: Nathan Abercrombie, Accidental Zombie.
