Hope Williams drained two free throws with two seconds remaining to seal New Mexico Highlands University's 89-85 victory over Eastern New Mexico University in women's basketball Monday night in Greyhound Arena in Portales.

Highlands finished 33-of-41 from the free-throw line to win its season opener and snip a seven game losing string to Eastern (0-1).

Ashley Logan, who was 10-for-11 from the line, scored a team-high 24 points for the Cowgirls. Jessica Armijo and Briana Gholston evenly divvied 28 points, while Oliana Seanoa chipped in 11.

Cat Clay scored 24 points for the Zias.

Highlands led 40-39 at intermission.

The Cowgirls and Zias changed leads six times. There also were 10 ties.

Nikki Ingram drilled a 3-pointer for Eastern to close the gap to 87-85 with two-seconds remaining. The Zias immediately fouled Williams.

Highlands was 21-for-27 from the line in the second half.
