A few years ago, Roman Polanski took a French play, Yasmina Reza’s God of Carnage (originally Le Dieu du Carnage), and made a disappointing hash of it as an English-language film. Now he’s taken an American play, David Ives’ Venus in Fur, translated it into French, and made some movie magic.
