The University of New Mexico took third place at the 2014 NCAA ski championships, held in early March at Soldier Hollow and Park City, Utah, and picked up its 17th individual national championship. Not bad for a desert state! The University of Denver won the overall team title, with the University of Vermont in second place and the University of Colorado in fourth.

In February, I wrote about a fundraising race — the Ultimate Ski & Snowboard Challenge — at Ski Santa Fe to benefit the Lobos ski team. I also mentioned that the ski program is the only sport to ever win a national championship at UNM.
