May 19, 1914: Colorado Springs, Colo. — Fighting for his life against a mad dog, which attacked him in a pasture north of Roswell, a suburb, this morning after it had bitten one of his cows, John De Marco, an Italian, succeeded in killing the animal with a rock before he was injured. Only the fact that he was wearing high topped boots which the dog’s teeth could not penetrate saved him from serious injury.
