When several appointments over a number of weeks required our being on the East Coast, my husband and I decided it would be easier to drive so that we would have the convenience of our own car. Besides, our two Labs have decided our vehicle is a wonderful rolling kennel, and now, retired from chasing balls and hiding children’s shoes, they enjoy a cross-country adventure.
Driving also affords us the opportunity to stay with distant relatives and friends. First on our and our dogs’ list of favorite people are Uncle Ken and Aunt Toni. Daisy and Spike adore Uncle Ken and Aunt Toni because they not only appreciate their sweet and gentle dispositions, they also never complain about the quantities of fur shed everywhere in the house. (My husband likes to say, that’s why they call it furniture; this is a view not shared by all members of the family, I must say.)
