Los Alamos baseball player Jared Mang was recently named the New Mexico Gatorade Baseball Player of the Year.

In addition, he was also recognized as the Northern New Mexico big-school baseball player of the year in our recent North Stars special section for having ridiculous stats at the plate (.605 batting average, 49 hits and two home runs) as well as an 8-2 pitching record with a 1.01 earned-run average.

That's awesome. To be a three sport athlete and maintain a 4.0 GPA is no easy task, especially at SM.

I agree with David. Academic athletes have to work hard to keep up with demands of the classroom and on the field. By the way, Isaiah Dominguez, the New Mexican Athlete of the Year, graduated with a 3.9 GPA.

There should be an academic all star team where an athlete is recognized for his/her academic prowess as well as their athletic prowess.
