National Day of Prayer should’ve made headlines

I have been an avid, (not always in agreement, sometimes critical as I am now) reader of The New Mexican since I learned to read and speak English at St. Michael’s, when I was a 6-year-old, about 1936. Albeit it was the comic strips Blondie, Li’l Abner and Dick Tracy. Fast forward now to the obituaries column.

Whatever. How can you pretend to know what God says if you hold no belief in him? Be obedient to only yourself, serve only yourself, be a slave to your earnings all you want. If I am wrong in believing in God, all i have wasted was time I could have spent with non-believers just like you. However, if you are wrong you will have wasted a lifetime serving nothing but your own self interests. Do what you wish, but do not attempt to belittle my beliefs or think for a second you will change my mind or prevent me from speaking to God wherever, and whenever I feel compelled to do so.

The greatest con ever devised; "Give me a lifetime of obedience, servitude and money, and in return , I will reward you with eternal life in paradise. After you die."

I believe Mr Rodriguez was put off by the choice to ignore a federally recognized day of prayer. He did not ask that you or Mr. palaima be made to take part in the actual prayer. I also find it odd that the media will promote "earth day" and other meaningless days of recognition but will not mention a day set aside for prayer. I agree with Mr. Rodriguez that the day should have been recognized for no other reason but to inform americans that the day exists and is rooted in a deep history of prayer for restoration of the nation. No one is demanding that you recognize it or take part. Do not however deny the people that want to take part in prayer that indulgence. I for one am fed up with athiests telling people that they can not recognize God at any time or in any place that they see fit to do so. The first amendment guarantees our right to the free exercise of our religion, period!

Mr. Rodriguez those that were interested in the Nation Day of Prayer, I am sure they knew about it. The rest of us go on with our lives choosing not to believe in the supernatural.

@ Rudy, I am happy to see you using the appropriate nomenclature, 'allude', since that is hopefully the most we'll ever be able to do when ascribing what our nation is 'under' when it comes to a god or gods. A day of prayer is your deal, thank you for celebrating it. It is not mine, so I simply worked and was content, at being around for another one. Please do not wish for us what many of us do not want for ourselves. I promise to do the same in return.
