Kit Carson faced complicated times

As one who grew up in Taos believing Kit Carson to be an honorable man, I can also believe that he must have been as conflicted in his attitudes and actions toward Native Americans as they were to him (“Renaming Carson park spurs debate in Taos,” June 14).

Complected really? O.K let's compare. Natives and Mexicans rising up against foreign invaders here to conquer us or a foreign invader here to conquer, killing hundreds of the native population and removing them from their homes to make way for white settlers who owned slaves. Didn't Bent have a slave Dick Green?

It is not complicated Carson was a murderer . a participant in genocide and slavery in a age and from a growing empire that celebrated genocide and slavery. The Indians and Mexican/Hispanics had every right to rebel against Bent and I just wish they had got Carson as well.

Look I'm Hispanic and I am willing and eager to show what my people did wrong. How we were no better to the Native people the real owners have the land then you Americans were. So why can't you understand and acknowledge your peoples crimes? Kit Carson and all the other Mason names should be erased from the map.
