The Santa Fe County residents from El Rancho, Jacona, Jaconita, Pojoaque, Nambé, Tesuque and Chupadero requests that our representatives in Congress and our county commissioners make good decisions about the proposed Aamodt settlement and the water-distribution system.

The taxpayers have not received full disclosure on all the ramifications of that system and its effects into the future. To this day, the details have been withheld from the public, resulting in a lot of confusion and skepticism about what is being proposed.

The funding for an environmental-impact study has not been requested in the current spending bill in Congress.

Citizens specifically need the following information from those proposing the system:

• What will the actual cost be for those served by the system: for the hookup, all the way to the residence, and the ongoing cost for the delivery of water? The distribution lines will go along the main artery, and the homeowner that lives three or four miles away will have to pay for the pipeline leading from the main line, as well as the connecting fees.
• How many people will be served by the proposed system and will not be able to pay for the cost of delivery?
• What guarantee of water quality can we expect after all processing and filtration is accomplished? We know that radioactive material and pharmaceuticals are present in the water, so we want to know what the cost for this purification will be.
• We want to know how a full-distribution system can be justified, in view of the low impact of the documented usage of the current well users in the area .

A direct comparison needs to be provided, illustrating the cost-effectiveness of:

• the system providing the required amount of water to the pueblos only, and
• of the full distribution system providing water for the entire area.
