The New Mexico Supreme Court has denied a request by a special prosecutor to reopen a fraud and embezzlement case against former Secretary of State Rebecca Vigil-Giron.

The former official — who now goes by the name Rebecca Vigil — was indicted in 2009 on charges of fraud, money laundering and embezzlement stemming from her alleged mishandling of $6 million worth of federal money the state had received in 2006 for voter education.
