LAS CRUCES — An overflow crowd packed a Las Cruces public meeting organized by Republican U.S. Rep. Steve Pearce on contentious rival proposals to create a new national monument in southern New Mexico.

Pearce is sponsoring House legislation to protect nearly 55,000 acres in and near the Organ Mountains east of Las Cruces.

It is clear that Tea Party Congressman Steve Pearce has played a right wing political game with our National Monument. Look at his presenters for his March 19th meeting - a bunch of anti-wilderness and anti-Federal government people, who represent Tea Party members, developers, naysayers, and fear-mongers.

There was no real community participation. It was simply an attack meeting on the Organ Mountains-Desert Peaks National Monument by Tea Party Congressman Steve Pearce and was an insult to our community and intelligence.

Mr. Pearce should follow the adage of Abraham Lincoln : "You can fool all the people some of the time, and some of the people all the time, but you cannot fool all the people all the time." Southern New Mexicans - should not be fooled by the bogus poll and Mr. Pearce's lies. Instead we should write President Obama to finally establish the Organ Mountains-Desert Peaks National Monument.
