Santa Fe Public Schools has appointed Tony Gerlicz — founder of Monte Del Sol Charter School in Santa Fe — as principal of the district’s planned International Baccalaureate school.

Gerlicz was founder and head learner of Monte Del Sol from 1999 to 2008. He then became director of the American School of Warsaw — his parents had emigrated from Poland years before — for four years before returning to New Mexico. He currently works for the Public Education Department as director of its Options for Parents division, which includes charter schools, virtual schools and nonpublic schools.
