Two proposals that would put the same restrictions on electronic cigarettes as those imposed on regular cigarettes will be the topic of a public hearing at City Hall soon.

Both proposals would amend existing city laws that govern the sale and use of traditional cigarettes by expanding the language in existing ordinances to include electronic nicotine delivery devices.

No. The ban is based on how it appears not on science or facts.

my opinion about this article is that it is retarded would you rather have people smoke actual cigarettes in stores and in restaurants no. and would you rather have your kids smoking actual cigarettes or drugs rather than e cigs no. and i do not believe it produces a second hand smoke like cigarettes do. because it is a vapor not a heavy smoke. so i believe banning ecigs would be stupid unless you want the kids of the united states to smoke crack and weed.

IS there any danger from the 2nd hand "smoke" from the e-cig? If not, why can't they be "smoked" in public?

I must take issue with this regulation. First the steam emitted by an ecig is no more harmful than the steam rising from your cup of caffeinated coffee. Nicotine and Caffeine are almost identical in addiction, toxicity and action. That is fact, not speculation. Further. Nicotine is found in tomatoes, potatoes, eggplant and a host of other vegetables as well as sold over the counter in gum, patches, lozenges, and inhalers. Are you prepared to ban the sales of these to minors as well? The other three ingredients are already FDA approved for consumption. Finally recent research has proven (to many's dismay) that ecigs actually keep kids OFF of harmful tobacco. Since kids are going to experiment with smoking anyway shouldn't we promote a healthier alternative? Also take note that e-cigarette juice comes in a 0 nicotine option. I beg of you NOT to follow in the footsteps of governments lining up to be sued. I quit smoking after a life long struggle thanks to ecigs and If you intend to force me to inhale second hand smoke while vaping I will sue and bring the vaping community of hundreds of thousands with me for the ride. Stand up and show the rest of the country that there is intelligent life in New Mexico. Thank you!
